Willy Mairesse

$36.00

Willem Edouard Numa Ghislain "Willy" Mairesse, October 1, 1928 - September 2, 1969, was a Belgian racing driver. Mairesse was also known as Wild Willy. He was an atypical racing driver by today's standards. He drove races on asphalt and gravel, road races and rallies. He was just as at home in sports cars as he was in single-seaters. His career was marked by countless serious accidents and fatal collisions. Rainer Schlegelmilch: "His starts were always like heading into hell." He was feared in one-on-one battles, but was always welcome as a teammate in sports cars due to his self-sacrificing devotion to races long thought lost.
